Grow Your Own

Updated: Apr 1, 2020

Fortunately, growing cannabis is a relatively fast and straightforward process. Marijuana grows and thrives on its own, but that doesn’t mean it can be completely neglected. The growing component of cannabis may be easily done, however, the yield process requires more control. Marijuana must be grown in a suitable, controlled environment to ensure high-quality. What do you need to maximize and enhance your cannabis yields?

Read on to discover how you can see vast improvements in the quantity and quality of your cannabis yields.

1. Prune Your Cannabis Plants

Firstly, try pruning your marijuana plants to improve the quality of cannabis yields. Start off by cutting specific parts of the plant that are hindering overall growth. This may be large leaves that are blocking light from reaching the other cannabis plants and shading them. Remove any dead leaves or yellowing leaves as they also prevent growth and consume the healthy plant’s resources. Pruning plants allow more consistent airflow to the center of the plant, which ultimately prevents mould development. Ensure you consider the following factors while pruning:

  • Begin pruning when plants develop a bushy shape.

  • Search for plant buds that are receiving less light.

  • Stop pruning and training plants when they are in the flowering phase.

2. Ensure Climate Control

Climate is a vital component of virtually all forms of agriculture. Growing cannabis fields outdoors in natural lighting and climate may be the easiest method but often does not produce maximum marijuana yields. In indoor, controlled settings, cannabis can be managed in a regulated climate. Altering the temperature and humidity to ensure the perfect, ideal conditions will produce high-quality yield results. When vegging cannabis, keep the area at a 20 to 30°C temperature, while flowering climates should be more considerate of humidity to avoid mold.

3. Control Lighting

Many plants require an abundance of sunlight or lighting and cannabis plants are certainly one of them. During the vegging period, plants require approximately 18 hours of light each day, with some marijuana growers giving their plants as much as 24 hours of light. During the flowering stage, the lighting schedule transitions to 12 hours with sunlight and 12 hours without. The light must be distributed completely evenly to all plants. This can be accomplished with LED or CMH lighting, which both have excellent, full-spectrum lighting qualities.

4. Harvest At The Appropriate Time

Do not rush cannabis growth as you will likely not receive the results you’re looking for. Harvesting too far in advance means the plant buds have not had the proper duration of time to reach their maximum potency. If you wait too long to harvest, the effects will transition from an energetic high to a relaxed experience. Consider this based on the results you’re looking to achieve.
